FIVE STEPS TO BECOME A MATHEMATICIAN!
Introduction
Being a mathematician does not mean that you have to do maths all day long (though, of course, if you find it fun, you can). A lot of people are good mathematicians because they just love developing intuitions about the simplest of things. We are all good mathematicians from birth. Be it cooking, playing chess or driving we are all doing mathematics on the go!1. You Have To Love The Beauty Of Mathematics.
Beauty in the sense that how easily you can develop mathematical intuition with certain tools at hand. For a beginner, appreciating the beauty of mathematics involves thinking abstractly about simple phenomenon (i.e. thinking like an artist). For instance, have you ever wondered whether an object that "looks locally" like three-dimensional space, and that has the property that any loop on it can be deformed onto a point, is necessarily a sphere in 4-dimensional space? This is in fact true, and its proof, over 500 pages long, was discovered only recently by Grigori Perelman.
2. Try To Find Mathematics Everywhere.
For instance, have you ever noticed a triangle inscribed in a circle, one side of which is a diameter? It is in fact true that the angle of the "tip of the triangle" is a right angle. Try to prove this yourself!
3. Make Friends With People Around You Who Appreciate Mathematics.
Doing this will open your mind to even greater reasons of loving maths. This will also let you know how much you know about mathematics in comparison to them.
4. Start In Elementary School:
To appreciate the beauty of mathematics one may try solving a lot of story/word math problems in order to get acquainted with the tricks and then keep it up in your sleeve. Many young mathematicians try to solve every kind of problem with the help of new ideas to you about mathematics. There is a different approach or formula for calculating every kind of situation including predicting weather changes mathematically!
5. Be Thorough And Even Do The Number Sense Competitions In School.
Always be in constant rivalry with people around you in class. Show them what you got. Be humble to accept changes and good ideas. Try to be updated with upcoming Mathematics Olympiads, Math League, or University Interscholastic League, and talk them up to your friends.
